Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes

Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes

Ingredients:

2 cups granulated sugar

1 packet of Kool-Aid (any flavor, e.g., Tropical Punch, Cherry, Grape)

2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1/4 cup water

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for added tartness)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for greasing the ropes)

Directions:

In a small bowl, combine the gelatin, Kool-Aid powder, and water. Let it sit for a few minutes to bloom the gelatin.

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture starts to bubble.

Once it begins to bubble, add the gelatin mixture and lemon juice (if using). Stir constantly until the gelatin fully dissolves, and the mixture becomes smooth.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then remove from heat. Let it cool slightly, then pour it into a heat-safe dish or tray.

Allow the mixture to cool for about 10 minutes, then gently grease your hands with vegetable oil. Once it is slightly firmed up but still pliable, start pulling and stretching the mixture into long licorice ropes.

Cut the ropes into desired lengths and let them cool completely on parchment paper before serving.
